Our Team

Pilates People has experienced tremendous growth, largely due to the effectiveness and satisfaction a fully-integrated Pilates program produces. The staff  includes several highly motivated professionals, each of whom brings the same dedication to a science-based program which has helped to define Pilates People from day one. We offer both Pilates for fitness and Pilates for rehab. 

Doreen Hall PT, Director of SDSM Physical Therapy, Physical Therapist and Pilates Instructor

Doreen  has over 25 years of experience as a licensed physical therapist. She has been teaching Pilates for 15 years, and has found that it is an invaluable tool for integrating awareness and facilitating the body’s innate ability to heal through movement.  Doreen has a diverse background in physical therapy with emphasis in manual therapy.  Her clinical experience includes pre-natal and postpartum rehab, sports and orthopedic rehab, as well as work with seniors. For 15 years Doreen owned and operated Pilates People with her husband Dave Hall.  She Graduated from Quinnipiac University in 1989, with a BS in Physical Therapy, and completed the Polestar Pilates training in 1998 with Bent Anderson and Elizabeth Larkam and continues to explore the use of the Pilates principles in all of her treatments. She enjoys the diversity of working with clients of all ages to improve quality of life!

David Hall, M.S., Director of SDSM Pilates Wellness and Pilates Instructor

David is certified in the Polestar approach of Pilates training for rehabilitation, and is PMA-certified (“Pilates Method Alliance”).  David also received classical Pilates training through Core Conditioning in Los Angeles, CA.  David graduated from San Diego State University with a Masters in Exercise Physiology.  He spent 5 years teaching Human Anatomy and Dissection at SDSU and Miramar College, and continues to be a provider of continuing education coursework for students.  His research study, "The Effects of Pilates Based Training on Gait and Balance in an Elderly Population" was published in the International Institute of Sport and Human Performance, and was presented at the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) national conference (Seattle, 1999).  David worked in SDSU's Adult Fitness Program conducting maximal exercise testing and developing exercise prescriptions for adults of all fitness levels.  David’s 14+ years, and 15,000+ hours of training and experience, has provided him with a diverse range of clientele, from the young and elderly, to competitive athletes.  These collective experiences allow him to bring a strong working knowledge of biomechanics and the musculature of the human body to every exercise session.  David actively promotes a safe and effective exercise experience in his studio.  David is an avid surfer, and enjoys playing acoustic guitar and spending time with his family!

Luisa Elizondo  PT, Physical Therapist & Pilates Instructor

Luisa graduated from Fresno State University with a Masters in physical therapy in 1995.  She has worked in San Diego hospitals within the acute care, in-patient rehab and outpatient orthopedic settings. She found her passion within the outpatient orthopedic clinics, utilizing manual treatment, exercise and postural awareness to improve the function and wellbeing of her patients. Luisa began Pilates for her own enjoyment and self rehab after a back injury. Realizing the value, she became a Stott certified Pilates instructor in 2007 and utilizes Pilates as the exercise modality with all of her clients. Luisa enjoys watching clients transformations!

Suzanne Wise, B.A. Pilates Instructor
  
Suzanne Wise was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan where she began dancing at the age of four. Unable to continue dance in     college due to injuries to her foot, she found an outlet through rowing and competed with Beach Crew at Cal State University Long Beach. Her passion for movement lead her to yoga, African dance, kayaking as well as competing in a triathlon, but it wasn't until she discovered Pilates that she found a connection to her background in dance. After graduating from San Diego State University with a BA in Painting and Printmaking, she completed her Pilates certification through Julian Littleford in 2008. She is also certified through the Pilates Method Alliance (PMA) and takes continuing education courses throughout each year. 

Suzanne has trained with Dr. Suzanne Martin, DPT and completed her rigorous 
Pilates Therapeutics® Foot Specialization Program, and tailors the therapeutic application of the Pilates Method for each individual client. Suzanne receives daily gratification from being able to teach clients about the deep connection of the mind to the body.  She is a firm believer that only with the connection and awareness of breath, will the body then achieve optimal core strength and overall balance, strength and flexibility.  Aside from teaching Pilates, she pursues her other passions, art and nutrition, and runs a raw food catering business, Wise Living Foods.

Salome Sammak B.A., Pilates Instructor 


Salome is a BASI-certified Pilates instructor.  After receiving her BA in English from the University of Tehran, Salome received her certificate in Fitness Instruction/Exercise Science at UCSD Extension.  In 2004, she became an Ace-certified personal trainer.  Salome fell in love with the art of movement and discovered the beautiful world of Pilates in 2005.  Salome soon realized that the integration of deep breathing, proper alignment and concentration had a profound and positive impact on not only physical performance, but mental health as well.  This appreciation led Salome to obtain her Pilates certification through Body Art Science International Institute (BASI).  In her own words:  “I am very passionate about all modalities of fitness and fusing them together for maximum achievement!  I am very grateful for the amazing gift of teaching.  To me, life is a learning process and I am always a student.  I love that my clients are a part of my learning process.”



                           
Heidi France Heidi France B.A., Pilates Instructor


Heidi’s lifelong love of movement led her to attend New York University’s prestigious Tisch School of the Arts in 1993. It was there that she was introduced to Pilates as a dance major at morning mat classes taught by the esteemed Kathy Grant (who learned from Joseph Pilates himself). Through a series of injuries, which turned out to be a mixed blessing, Kathy helped Heidi to recover and maintain her body, through Pilates, during her years at NYU. After graduating in 1996 with a BFA in Dance, she has continued her journey of intelligent movement along the many paths life has taken. Most recently performing with Off Center Dance in Boise Idaho from 2011-2014. 

Heidi taught several mat Pilates classes a week at Total Woman Fitness and Idaho Athletic Clubs for seven years. In early 2013 she began her journey with Balanced Body's comprehensive Pilates instructor training on the array of Pilates equipment.  She then taught private and group Pilates at Thrive Physical Therapy and Pilates in Boise, ID for the year of 2014 before returning to beautiful San Diego with her husband and two children. She continues to learn and attend continuing education seminars. Heidi enjoys the endless learning that comes with teaching (and practicing) Pilates!


Kirstin Fender, Pilates Instructor
Kirsten is a Stott Certified Pilates Instructor, Functional Movement Specialist Certified (Level 1) and Registered Dietitian. She hails from the mid- peninsula Bay Area but found herself calling San Diego her new home after transferring to San Diego State for a degree in Food and Nutrition. Since the age of eight she has been an avid equestrian,  with a love for the sport of three-day eventing. Quickly realizing the demands of the sport, she pursued a specialty certification in EQUESTRIAN PILATES ®.  Kirstin is dedicated to the health and fitness needs of riders, as it her main passion.  However, her holistic body approach allows all her clients to maximize their results so they can feel and perform their best.  In her spare time she enjoys riding, self-development workshops and sharing her love of cooking/baking with friends and family.

Pilates San Diego is a body conditioning routine that builds flexibility, muscle strength (making muscles lean and elongated, not “bulking up”), and endurance in the legs, abdominals, arms, his, and back.  It puts emphasis on spinal and pelvic alignment, breathing, and developing a strong core or center, and improving coordination and balance. Pilates San Diego system allows for different exercises to be modified in range of difficulty, from beginner to advanced.  Clients can proceed at their individual pace, and intensity can be increased over time as the body conditions and adapts to the exercises.
