The Benefits and Advantages of a Pilates Workout

Runner or golfer, tennis player or brand new mother, the odds are good that you've heard someone chatting about the advantages of Pilates. Many kinds of individuals, at numerous levels of fitness, whom have started doing Pilates workouts state they've seen improvements in range of motion, blood circulation, pose, and core strength -- and decreases in back, neck and joint discomfort.

Celebrity Pilates teacher Siri Dharma Galliano states Pilates -- when performed properly and using the proper supervision -- can do all that and more.

"It is a training in body awareness," claims Galliano, whom owns Live Art Pilates studio in Los Angeles. "It changes your form by educating you in day-to-day life. Whenever you're cooking, brushing your teeth -- the lessons are coming house to pull your belly in and pull your arms down. There is an attention required (in doing the workouts) that modifications your understanding" also after course.

"It shows you how exactly to train your mind and build symmetry and coordination in the human body," adds Galliano. "And whenever you can get control of the little things, that's practicing willpower."

Aliesa George, a Pilates instructor in Wichita, Kan., agrees.

"The biggest advantage in my eyes would be personal awareness -- awareness of how you sit or how you stand or how you move and being able to link those practices to the aches and problems and injuries you've got or have had in the past," she says.

For example, she says, it can assist make you aware of that persistent tweak in the throat you have from sitting at the computer all day with rounded arms and a phone cradled between ear and shoulder.

As a Pilates-trained physical therapist, Dan Westerhold says he views a lot of clients with injuries or weakness of the postural muscles, as an outcome of work, lifestyle, or not working out the right method.

"Individuals sit slouched at computer systems all time, then go to the fitness center and work their extremities," claims Westerhold, of Pilates Seattle. "They don't make use of their core."

Think of a tree, Pilates experts state. Does it have all its strength in its limbs? No. The tree is only as strong as its trunk and roots. Without a strong trunk, the tree would topple over.

It's the same for individual bodies, state Pilates professionals. If we don't focus on building a good foundation and a strong trunk or core, we'll end up tight in some places and weak in other individuals, injury-prone and prone to the problems of our occupation or chosen form of exercise.
