A More Youthful You with Pilates! Pilates San Diego

Written by
Pilates is probably not the Fountain of Youth, but Pilates People is certain it will help roll back a couple of years!
Pilates is sometimes associated with yoga, but there are significant differences between the two. Yoga is a mind, body and spirit exercise focused heavily on holding specific postures and exploring the breathing, physical feelings and emotions. Pilates is a mind & body approach to exercise working when using a more energetic “comprehensive movement system” dedicated to strengthening the core, adjusting postures and overall physical conditioning.

The actions that comprise a Pilates workout consist of exercises carried out on mats or Pilates apparatus (equipment) wherein the client is learning all movement from the core. Clients engage while sitting, standing up and/or lying down, doing 5 - 8 reps of the majority of movements. The apparatus’ spring programs enable people to incorporate the resistance from the springs into their motion and muscle control, offering stability over the movement and increased balance and strength for activities.

The power of each workout can be designed to the age, level of fitness and goals of the person. There is really no upper or low age limitation on who may benefit from the exercise. Specifically, just how aging people can develop enhanced muscle balance and go back to enhanced amounts of control and coordination.

Objectives for other clients could include overall body toning and defining, pain management, increased energy and flexibility, or better balance, alignment and coordination. Advantages can include enhanced physical overall performance for runners and decreased stress levels.

No matter the individual client’s goals, a main intent is the introduction of increased core strength, permitting back, lateral and ab muscles to support the core more efficiently. This better posture leads to far better breath control and enhanced the flow of energy throughout the body.

The most convenient practice entails a one-hour program, 2 or 3 days a week. Many of Pilates People’s students sign up for group classes, although individual workouts are available also.
We think that both women and men of different ages can use Pilates to discover that “hidden you” and increase their own potential and enjoyment of life. As we say, “That vitality that you had as a more youthful person? You will get that back!”

Pilates San Diego is a body conditioning routine that builds flexibility, muscle strength (making muscles lean and elongated, not “bulking up”), and endurance in the legs, abdominals, arms, his, and back.  It puts emphasis on spinal and pelvic alignment, breathing, and developing a strong core or center, and improving coordination and balance. Pilates San Diego system allows for different exercises to be modified in range of difficulty, from beginner to advanced.  Clients can proceed at their individual pace, and intensity can be increased over time as the body conditions and adapts to the exercises.
